A Glimpse Into My Favorite Vintage Shops In Los Angeles
Vintage shopping can be super intimidating, especially if the store is messy and unorganized. My favorite vibe is when the shop is clean, inviting, and I love it when the racks are color-coded. This helps to easily focus on the colors and textures that might be grabbing your attention.
When walking into a vintage shop, I start by allowing my gaze to go to the first texture/color I see. Maybe I see a sequin dress from across the room, I let myself wander to it. Or maybe I am on the hunt for denim (hi, hello, me always) its okay to head straight for that denim rack. I let my curiosity lead and I try not to hold myself back from looking at every single piece of clothing on the rack before I find my groove.
I also try not to have a specific thing I am looking for. Sure, I am always on the hunt for timeless boots, a great leather jacket, silk-anything, and denim, literally always denim. But I love to let my inspiration sore and follow my heart. The best thing about vintage shopping is finding the keepsakes.
It’s amazing to live in Los Angeles where there are so many vintage and second-hand stores. My favorite places to vintage shop are in Los Feliz, Silverlake and Echo Park. I also love Highland Park but I am still getting to know the vintage shops in that neighborhood.
The 3 stores below are just a few of my absolute favorite in Silverlake and Echo Park that each hold a special place in my heart:
1. Painted Bird
Why I love it: This was one of the first vintage stores I stumbled into when I moved to Los Angeles 9 years ago and it has been my go-to ever since. It is super affordable, extremely well curated with both authentic vintages pieces and second-hand items. I can always count on them to be easy on my wallet and I love looking at their shoe selection. They also have menswear so Cole can come with me!
2. Worship
Why I love it: First of all, this shop is inside of the most precious house from the 1920s making it cozy and inviting. The owner is super rad and is amazing at curating mostly all vintage from every decade. Occasionally you will find a modern second-hand piece but for the most part, it is all totally one-of-a-kind vintage pieces.
3. Sleeper
Why I love it: Last but not least, this is my favorite vintage shop I have discovered in L.A. The shop is literally a hidden gem being that it is located underneath an apartment complex. It is so well curated with designer vintage pieces, second-hand and one-of-a-kind finds. My husband and I go here every few months because the men’s selection is also incredible. You can also find antique home goods and jewerly scattered around the shop as well.
Aside from these top 3, I also love:
Recollection
The Bearded Beagle
Fox, Hole LA
Super Goodie
Squaresville.
I would love to hear what shops you love in your city or in Los Angeles —share in the comments below, happy second-hand shopping!
